Johnson County Sertoma

What in the world is a "SERTOMA"?

SERTOMA is an abbreviation of three very important words: SERvice TO MAnkind.

Johnson County Sertoma Club serves the Johnson County, Kansas community with community service projects, building projects, educational and special focus on the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children.

We are a group of people who care for our community, our neighbors and each other.

In today's busy, stressful world, we believe that it is important to take a bit of time to "give back" . . . and SERTOMA is our way of giving back.

How do the members of SERTOMA benefit the community?

  • We produce the annual Fantasy Sports Camp, allowing Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and their siblings the opportunity to learn and play sports with their peers for a week of fun, bonding and learning.

  • We award an annual scholarship to a deserving student at KU Medical Center whose mission is to improve the lives of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing upon graduation.

  • We provide hearing aids at a nominal charge to children who are candidates for cochlear implants at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

These are just a few of the ways the members of Johnson County Sertoma serve the community.

But . . . WE NEED YOUR HELP!

There are many other programs and services that SERTOMA would like to bring about. However, we cannot do it without an active and caring membership.

Will YOU consider becoming a member of Johnson County Sertoma? It's a very small commitment, but the rewards are huge.

Imagine the feeling of knowing you are directly helping thousands of people in your county or city with just a couple of hours per month!
